Bait & Switch Carpet Cleaning in San Diego
Unfortunately there are all too many Bait & Switch Unfortunately there are all too many Bait & Switch Carpet Cleaning In San Diego companies here in San Diego and yes it is illegal. Let’s face it, San Diego has more carpet cleaners than any other city. Every city has Bait & Switch companies but for some reason Carpet Cleaners seem to have the most.
What is Bait & Switch? It is simply a “too good to be true price” that you can not resist and after that things change such as: itemized add on billing for vacuuming, pre-conditioner, spot treatment, traffic lane cleaning, waste water dump fee, fuel charge and on & on. You take the cheap price bait, they get into your home and the games start.
Let’s stop right here an analyze this whole cheap price concept. You can do the math, 5 rooms for .95 is not feasible for quality work, it is not feasible for any profit margin and it is obviously not safe. Any 5 room home will require at least 2.5 man hours if not 3 hours. You factor in the overhead such as insurances, fuel, cleaning solutions, plus other factors such as wear & tear for vehicle & equipment wear & replacement then you can figure on zero profit. But, wait we even forgot about Uncle Sam’s cut.
It is obvious that something is going to happen that won’t positive for you in the experience and unfortunatley all too many people fall for the scams. They quoted a price & at the end there is a demand for a much higher price. That victim usually pays up but then is convinced that all carpet cleaners are hacks & thieves. This is not true, many of us are passionate about our work, our profession & our businesses and go out of our way to provide you the best service possible & at the same time educate you on the wolfs in sheep clothing.
Read all ads carefully, there are gentler Bait & Switch ads that do include the things that you should know in fine print or in an area you won’t look: truck mount service extra, pre-conditioner extra, spot treatment extra & etc. You should not have to pay for the items that are required to provide standard cleaning. Beware of “Basic Steam Cleaning or Basic Cleaning” this is another gentle form of Bait & Switch.
Always ask plenty of questions when getting a quote for carpet cleaning. Do you provide Truck Mounted carpet cleaning, will you be using my water, my electricity, are you insured, are you licensed, will you arrive on time, how long have you been in business, can I have your last three job references, how much will it cost to get the carpet clean & what are your optional charges that I may be expected to pay? Read & get the job order signed with the price as per your satisfaction before the job starts.
You should always be inquisitive about the cleaning agents being used for your safety & your families. Is it cheap harmful speed cleaning chemicals or is it green Green. Did your cleaning technician ask if you have any allergies or sensitivities? Cheap Bait & Switch outfits normally run with an emulsifier in the fresh water rather than apply it first to the carpet (pre-conditioner) and this leaves nothing but sticky chemical residue in your carpet.
Finally, get the Guarantee in writing and make the check out to a company name for accountability. Cash only is a red flag!
I hope this helps, I deal with victims on a daily basis trying to restore credibility to a profession of which I am passionate about as many of us are.
